I just bought an H3 and I am loving it... however every mechanic tells me that I bought myself a nightmare... Where else is better for me to ask and get the peace of mind.

Do I have to start making mechanic best-friends or are they exaggerating?

They are either misinformed or intimidated by what they don't understand....

Any part in any vehicle will break if you flog it hard enough. Just practice wheeling the H3 in a manner that plays to it's strengths and avoid the tactics that are unfriendly to its IFS design.

The only problem with the H3 is not that it breaks all the time but that some of the things that do break aren't cheap- like the front diff crossmember bushing that can only be fixed by buying the entire crossmember. However, I mostly just complain because the prices of everything have kept climbing year after year and I remember when a pickup truck normally came with rubber floor mats, a manual transmission, roll-up windows, a real 8ft bed and still was maybe only $7,500, or just over $12,000 for the "city-fied" versions!

A Hummer doesn't break any more or any less than any other average vehicle on the road. If they cant work on a chevy, whatever the name on the badge outside they must not be very good mechanics.

George, perhaps its because you are having issues with yours as of right now. Your thread doesnt explain that to these guys/gals so they dont know your specific situation, nor do I really... explain for us, when did you buy it? miles? and issues so far?

when i finally decide to buy a used car,i change oil and filt. you can change all fluids if you want to be sure its got the right stuff or just "to be nice"

oh check the air pressure.
i use synthetic oil and waste some money on 4-5000 mile changes!

after that you're at the mercy of the previous owners care or lack of.
relax and enjoy.

What year? From what I've read, the '06 models had some quirks or potential issues.

How many mechanics have you talked to???

BTW "mechanic" is a subjective term to many, just because you worked at Jiffy Lube does not make you a mechanic. Consider the source.

Thumbs up

Currently own our 3rd H3 and looking to buy an H2 SUT shortly. No problems at all. Our 2nd H3 saved our lives in an awful crash. Your "mechanics" may be misinformed or unfamiliar with Hummer vehicles.

Like any vehicle pushed beyond its design limits, things will fail on a Hummer. I live in a rural area of Michigan and have yet to encounter any true mechanic who is intimidated by any of our Hummers.
