Gas Mileage Improvement after 2,000 miles?

RE: Gas Mileage Improvement after 2,000 miles?
IK, I hate to rub it in, butwe usually average just over 22 MPG inour '07 H3. On my recent trip to Vancouver and back, which included about 50 Km city driving and about 850 Km of highway, but through higher mountain passes I averaged 19.5 MPG, and I'm a bit of a lead foot. My GF gets better mileage 'cause she drives "nicer".

LHB - when you're driving on the highway what is your typical cruising speed?
I only have about 800 miles on my '07 5-speed, and so far I'm getting about 17.4 mpg with about 60% highway/40% suburb driving. I typically go about 70-75 mph and try to shift at around 2200-2600 rpm. I did this in my '03 Nissan 350Z 6-spd and regularly beat the EPA sticker hwy figure of 26 with an actual 28 highway/25+ combined average.

Last time I fiiled up..I filled it till the gas was at the top of the fill neck, at the cap..Today I filled up again exactly like last time, andI put in 6.4 gallons @$3.28/gal 89 octane[:@]
My trip odo was @ 118.1 miles since the last fill......of city drivng mostly, with A/C on.
118.1 รท 6.4 = 18.45 MPG....[sm=happy046.gif]
In case anyone new askes...
K&N CAI
GIBSON Cat-back exhaust (dual outlet)
PCM tuned by PCMforless
and
High speed chrome lug nuts.
I suggest, if y'all want exacting numbers on your mileage...take the time and force fill ( I found a pump where it is real easy to start and hold at a trickle) your's to the top for the next two fill ups, like I didand see what your mileage is then..it's the only way to be sure.

Just put on 1400 miles in the last week. 90% highway but with some stop and go. Never got above 16.5 on a tank even when it was 100% highway, though A/C was on the whole time. Set cruise control at 75 in CA and 80 in AZ

Alrock - that's about what I'm getting at those speeds. I've got 1600 miles now but I haven't changed my oil yet and the last tank was 17.19 mpg with 65% hwy/35% city driving. Do you have an automatic 07? I have a 5-spd and I thought I would get at least 1-2 more mpg than the 4-spd auto.
Dennis - how many miles do you have on the clock and I assume yours is an auto as well?
I'm going to have the first oil change at about 2,000 miles and I'm going to use 0-30w Mobil 1. I'm curious if the low viscosity full synthetic oil will make any difference in mpg.
Then I'm going to monitor the changes with the CAI and finally exhaust. Ideally I would have dyno runs to back up the mpg "data" but I don't have the hook-up like I did where we used to live.

The oil change at 2000 miles is a great Idea..I did mine at the first 1000 miles...then every 5000 miles there after.
But you had better use 5w30 or you will void the warranty for sure (don't screw around here, you may regret it)..I use Castrol Syntec in all my cars..it is the second best synthetic for less engine wear on the market compared to Amsoil...Mobil 1 isnear the bottom of the list...
