Default Fuel door options.

One of the things I don't like about the H3 that I'm considering is that the gas cap is right there in the open. For that reason I was looking at fuel door covers. I see they come in chrome and I'm told black - are the black metal too - or is that hard plastic. The cost of getting one and having the dealer install it before I pick it up would be 260. That price is then worked out in the lease payments. Should I have the dealer do it? Is the black more expensive or cheaper, this particular vehicle doesn't have the chrome mirrors handles, etc. so I don't know if I want to go with the chrome fuel door cover if a black one is out there. Any thought?

Hi Porgy,

First let me say....welcome. Then, I'll casually mention using the SEARCH function, 'cause this has been mentioned before.

Then, in the spirit of complete Oprahfication; Yes you can get black and yes they are metal. Buy one and do it your self, you'll save $$$$ - they are expensive enough on their own. I have a locking black cover waiting for warm weather to put on. I think the black and the chrome are very similar in price. By all means though, do a search there are several threads that are informative.

You'll save around $150 if you put it on yourself. Only you can answer if it is worth it to let the dealer install it or not. If you can afford it, let them do it, if not do it yourself and if you have questions we will answer them.

If you have the dealer do it, and you are financing, then you are also financing that door and the labor. So your $260 will be $300 by the time you finish. As CWS said, use the search. You'll even find pics of the installations.

I bought the realwheels black locking cover from gstyle and installed it in about 10 minutes with a screwdriver. Looks great (all metal also).
