Where can one find this carbon grease? Who carried it?

Wow, a little harsh. Yes I had looked. I'm in a small town in Canada and tried Napa, Canadian Tire and Walmart. None of them had any idea what I was talking about. I realized I could probably find it online but I didn't want to wait 4 to 6 weeks - I was hoping to go out and buy it right away. Radio Shacks no longer exist in Canada but there is an electronics store in town, thanks for that suggestion I hadn't tought of them as I was thinking "auto" places but electronics just might have it.

Strangely enough, in case anyone else is having this problem and following the thread - it has resumed working again on it's own the last couple of days. I'm sure it will fail again but it reinforces the idea that it's a bad connection somewhere. Or possibly a solder failure in the device somewhere. It's getting colder here now which I would have expected to make the problem worse, not better.

 

You certainly don't have to wait four to six weeks
You can order from Amazon and get the grease in 3 to 5 days (My first suggestion)

If you feel that asking someone (you) to try a "search" first for info is too harsh for you
I think you are being overly sensitive, considering we all have been trying to help you
with your problem

 

I have ordered before and sometimes I get things in a week, sometimes in several weeks. I followed your suggestion and phoned an electronics place and they have it.

Well....I did all the above suggestions and it did work for a month or two but my problem came back. Yesterday I reapplied the solutions again and it's working better....but still blanks out at times. FYI

I know its an old post. But I just found it after searching the net for many days for the same problem. My screen has also gone dark and comes back for a few seconds once every week or so. I am a newbie and don't know how to dismantle the head unit and apply grease to the connectors. If its not much trouble, could you explain it in more detail please, if possible with pictures. I am sure it will be a great help for many other novices like myself.

You do not need to disassemble the head unit, only remove it from dash.

Disconnect negative battery terminal.

Pull the brushed aluminum cover on the console, no screws to remove here
Unclip harness from connectors.

Remove the four screws holding entire stereo head unit.

Carefully disconnect connectors from back of head unit, there are four.
Main connector, secondary connector, GPS antenna, coaxial antenna
Put "carbon conductive grease" on the two main connectors as described in the earlier posts.
Follow those instructions !!!!

Reconnect all connectors, replace head unit. Attach remaining connectors to brushed aluminum cover and snap cover back in place.

Reconnect battery terminal.

1- how and from where do I pull the brushed aluminium cover, it seems to be fixed with some kind of adhesive? does it fit back easily.
2-"Unclip harness from connectors." which harness and connectors? I thought the connectors are at the back of the head unit.
3-can I apply grease in all connectors? or just the two main?


Sorry for bothering you, just want to be very sure before touching my baby, I love her so much!!
