FIRST SNOW (VA)

RE: FIRST SNOW (VA)
D Vader I agree. It sucks that when you try to help somebody, you can sometimes unwittingly end up to on the short end of the stick. If you do help...by stopping on the road/shoulder and hooking up a tow strap, just be aware of all the circumstances and use your best judgment. Often, it is just not worth it to wear the white hat. IfI were on an isolated road with no traffic and temps were at a dangerous level, I would help a stuck car truck with occupants, but otherwise no.
The other side of the story......My best brud's brother-in-law stopped to help a guy that slid off the road in rural Indiana. Dark, snowing and not anybody else around. The guy he was helping was drunk and had stolen the pick up truck unbeknownst to our "good guy". When he got down to hook up the tow strap, the guy slit his throat and left him for dead, and took his truck. He survived after weeks in the hospital and took him months to get back to work. They have never caught that scuz bag!!!
That is why I saycall to Police and a tow truck is the very best option!!

I was in KS a couple of days after Turkey day and got some snow. After living in Phoenix for 14 years this is a rare sight for me. I doubt any of my last few cars ever saw snow.

I am Paramedic and I too am careful when helping people off duty, but "The good samaritan law" (check your state law) should cover you as long as you are not doing it for
$$$ and you have there permission. Some states are trying to pass laws that will find you negligent if you dont help. But keep in mind we do live in the "Sue You" society. Most important thing is YOUR OWN safety first.
