Default First oil change

Did my first oil change yesterday. Man, what a pain! I've been spoiled with my Honda and change the oil in about 5 minutes. So messy, it's crazy, as you guys are all aware.

Draining the oil gets oil all over the protective bars and skid plate. And the oil filter (quite small and was surprised), is in a terrible spot. I had to grab a filter wrench to remove it. Again, oil spills all over when taking it out.

So that's my experience. I'm sure my system will improve but man, just a total mess.

I used Mobil 1 0W-30 oil synthetic. I wanna eek out as many MPG's as possible. I bought two 5 quart jugs from Walmart for $25 each, a steal price considering 1 quart goes for $8. I used a NAPA Platinum (same as a WIX) 41042, $13.

Buy the appropriate Fumoto valve. I've always put them on my vehicles.
You just attach a tube, open the vavel. Everything drains out without any mess. The oil filter is another story.

I'm at the point that I just know where to place a catch can for the oil filter oil & I have no spills. Buy some nice, thick latex (or nitril if you have a latex allergy) gloves. Makes it a painless procedure. Fram makes an oil filter removal cup. They also make a pair of pliers for the job. Well worth the money. I always use them when doing an oil change.

I let my H2 sit about 10 minutes to drain as much old oil as possible. I'd say it takes me 30 minutes, but I'm never in a rush & don't spill anything.

It was my first change, just so used to my Honda, it was shocking how different it was; used to not spilling a drop. Darn, Fumoto beat me to that invention. That was exactly the product I had in mind yesterday. I definitely need this product.

Yeah, the filter was the worst, gets all over the lower bars and parts. I bought a filter remover from Autozone, fits on my 3/8 socket wrench. Just gotta find a way so oil doesn't get everywhere when draining...
