Default Finally Found an H1

Well, it has been nearly 3 years and I have finally found a worthy H1. Actually I found 2 here in Saudi Arabia.

1993 Turbo
80,000KM's on it.
White. 4Door Hard top
$34,500 USD

1998 Turbo
50,000KM's on it.
Black wagon.
$45,000 USD

I'm looking at picking up the wagon since it has better HVAC and is the newer model which should be in better condition (in theory).

Now I remember a while back when looking at the lynchhummer website they had a "used h1 checklist" that listed everything you should look at before buying an H1, after driving it for 15mins where to look and what to watch out for. But I can't find it for the life of me right now. It has info on the suspension, how it should sag, or feel when you stop. It was really useful

I read that the Turbo has more problems than the NA, but I can't find one and am hoping I'm lucky with this one.

As for the Cylinder 8 problem, the owner doesn't know anything about it, they bought it from a guy and didn't know anything about the truck. So how would I find out if that problem has been resolved or not, and is it that big of a problem if it hasn't been fixed?

Also, what parts are interchangeable with other vehicles?
I'm talking about things like brake pads (I read that a GMC truck will suffice for the front, but not the back cause of the e-brake), what about the oil filter, oil pump, steering pump, etc?

Concerning parts that can't be found from other trucks. Can they be fixed in a garage, or machined into new? Or will I def. most likely have to buy them already made? Like, once it goes bad, it's complete garbage and can't be salvaged?

I haven't test drove either of them because I want to go and know everything before doing that, otherwise it'd be pointless to drive just for the natural feel of it. CTIS. How would I know if that's working properly or not?

Thank you for any info you guys can give me.

On Lynch's website click on H1 Inventory. At the bottom of that page is the Used Hummer Buying Guide.
Get the VIN from the truck and have a Hummer dealer run it for you. If it was been replaced under warranty they will have a record of it.
93 did not have a turbo engine available. If the 93 has a turbo the motor has been changed or reworked. The N/A motors don't have the electronics of the turbo motors but they also don't have the torque, HP or speed. Most, but not all, of the #8 cylinder motors needed replacement in the first 30,000 miles. My 97 and 98 both have original motors, 80,000 miles and no issues. About a third of the trucks had the issue.
CTIS is a great option. If it doesn't work I would get it fixed. Does the compressor not work, lines leak or did they change out the wheels to non CTIS wheels?
Go drive them. Regardless of what you know about the trucks you will figure out if you like those trucks or not and if you like Hummers enough to drive them daily or shell out the cash for one.

I looked at the site in and out. But it seems they took out the Buyers guide and only have the model changes on there now.

As for the 93. I'll take another look into it, also I'll see if the local dealer can give me more info on the 98 engine. If it wasn't swapped/fixed how would I know if it needs it or not? And what exactly happens to the 8th cylinder? Is it an easy fix?

I dunno about the CTIS. He didn't mention anything wrong with the vehicle over all, but then again why would he be selling it? I was just curious, how would you test the CTIS. Just deflate and then re-inflate all the tires? That takes like 30mins total, right?

I'm gonna take it for a drive and take it a local mechanic to see if he can spot anything on it Thursday afternoon. I'll let you guys know. Wish me luck

Find out when the trucks were shipped to Saudi. Many new trucks shipped overseas went without a warranty. That may effect the ability to pull up records on it. Tustin Hummer or Lynch should be able to get whatever history is available on the trucks.

If the #8 issue develops then the cylinder wall will develop and crack and the block will need to be replaced.
On the CTIS there will be inflate and deflate switches and an air pressure guage on the dash. You have the option of inflating the front tires, rear tires or all four tires. Same options on deflating. Push the deflate button briefly. You should hear the air release and see the guage drop some. Push the inflate button and the compressor should kick on and increase the tire pressure. No, it takes only a few minutes, not 30.

Would a compression check show of anything to watch out for? What did the warranty/swap do exactly, replace the whole entire block?

And I'll get the VIN and see what I can come up with. I can't wait until Thursday!!

A compression check could tell you a lot. Under warranty, if the #8 cylinder issue became a problem, the engine was replaced.

Had a quick business trip to get on and couldn't post back until today. I was out of luck the day I went, someone had taken the Wagon to get checked at a shop and so I couldn't see it. I did see the pickup, which was in HORRIBLE condition. I don't know how this person is asking this much. The interior was completely jacked, I'm talking covering up parts with standard MDF wood, the frame was bent, it leaned to one side and had a horrible paint job. You could tell the person was driving it and not giving a crap about it. Look how he parked it, rammed the gate in the back. The bumper was still sticking to it, he didn't care.

My buddy sent me a picture of a Humvee (94) and he says it's been beaten to crap, and is still pretty much military spec, no real guages. He's selling it for $17,000 USD. And the only thing that needs to be fixed is the HVAC controls on it. I'm thinking it might be a good buy because I will be abusing it without worrying too much about it now. Where as if I bought a mint condition for a high price, I'd care about hitting a sign post or other vehicle.

I've attached pics of them two and will hopefully see the Wagon which might be in better condition.

Maybe the guy posting that hard top missed his decimal point some where. That's terrible. Makes me inside

Talk about reviving an old thread:

Allright, back from some long business and lucky for me, the Black Wagon still hasn't been sold.
I snapped some pics, but I'll upload them tomorrow (since the phone is on the charge right now).

The guy is asking for: 34,500.00 USD. Still the same KM's.
I seen the exterior and the inside, but it was night time and he took the battery out of it, so no lighting on the inside. It was his friend showing it, and not the original owner. And he was totally clueless on the machine.

From what I could see (street lights allowing) was a touch screen radio and ipod hook up. The rooftop console felt very flimsy, pushing it in gave a lot of way. I have no idea if that's normal. There were also some screws driven into it.

He's also got a bunch of huge speakers in the back just taking up all the room. I have no idea how that wiring is gonna look like (but I'm guessing, nasty).

The exterior looks good (although dirty). No cracks in the hood, and it sits evenly on the body, the body doesn't slant to any side. It's got fairly new tires on it. The CTIS cover is missing on one of the tires (I dunno, will that probably cause it to snag on something if I hit a forest area).

The pole sticking out of the side mirrors felt pretty loose at the connection joint with the body. I don't know if that's normal. The rest of the mirror felt sturdy.

Another add on is the winch and 6 (or so) rooftop spotlights on the front.

My buddy said that if the interior needs work then I should ask: $21,200 for it.
I don't know if he'll go for it, but I'm gonna see. I'm also gonna snag the VIN and take it to a shop to have them give me their opinion it.

What do you guys think? And the flimsy top interior console normal (and side mirror).

Thanx!
