Faster responding back up camera
I have an 08 H2 with the luxury package. From the time I start the vehicle and put it in reverse, it takes 9 seconds for the crappy back up camera to come on. I'd like to replace the whole unit but want to make sure the camera responds quickly and has a good picture. Any suggestions?
I have a Pioneer AppRadio 3, not sure of the backup camera model but it's wired, not wireless. Whether I have just started it or I've been driving around it takes at most a second for the camera to display. As long as the camera lens is clean the picture is surprisingly clear.

Does this system have XM?
No, it's main feature is smartphone connectivity (and it's been discontinued, the much better AR4 has been out for a while). You can always add an external sat radio car kit to any stereo or just get a stereo that is sat radio ready or has it built in.
The point I was trying to make is you are correct that a new head unit can eliminate the delay you are seeing. My suggestion is to go to crutchfield.com and and use their search filters to pick whatever options you want. If you have a smartphone, I suggest going with a stereo that works with your phone instead of one with built-in navigation.

I have an 08 as well and yes the camera is not great and its position is even worse. Anyway I installed the lockpick and I have front, rear, and aux camera. After talking to the lockpick tech support I learned they leave the camera powered all the time b/c switching between the cameras is instant. They use to get complaints that the delay was too long (like you are experiencing) when the camera had to be powered up before displaying the video feed from it.
With the the lockpick, switching between my 3 cameras is instant. Maybe use that information when sourcing a new head unit with camera capabilities. Or if you are handy, try running a power wire to the rear camera and see if the video feed comes up quicker for you.
