engine rattle
Hello everyone!
i have what sounds to me nocking or pre ignition noises from my 07 h3 adv.
i can hear it when the engine is under load at 3000/3500rpm.
sounds like a bearing chewing itself to pieces, not too loud but very noticable at night with the radio turned off.
i have searched"engine rattle"and the guys discussing this seemed to have concluded a fuel problem.
here in cyprus we have 95 and 98 octane fuel, tried both, seems to be less noise with 95octane.
it is worse since i fitted 305/70/16tires,adv comes with 265/75for some reason here in cyprus.
i only have 6000km on it so far.
checked heat shield on manifold and is tight.
any ideas as what to do next anyone?
thanks for all the info so far!

Hey Nicos:
How do they measure octane in Cypress? RON or MON? 95 should be fine, that is either 87 or 89 here in the States.
I assume you already checked oil level, good job on the heat shield check, no mention of check engine light. I'm pondering.
Do you have a dealer nearby that could run a diagnostic scan? At 6000km I'm also assuming you have not done an oil change yet. When you do, closely inspect the oil
for any grit. I doubt it is a serious issue, but anything is possible.
The I5 VVT has been known to make funny noises and many people have thought they heard strange things only to be told by the dealer that it was all normal?
It would be interesting to see what an increase in air flow would do to that sound.

Hello Doc!
i think they measure in RON but not sure, oil level is spot on and actually changed oil and filter 3 times so far! i know its too much but we do have alot of dust and high temps here! i use amsoil 5/30.
no check engine light so far and ufortunately our one and only dealer on the island has not set up a garage yet,a friend mech has an OBD2 i think its called tool,do you think that will show anything?
nice one on the intake!am looking forward to fitting it!
thanks again!
