I read on here a while back about people having trouble with engine noise on start up. I brought my H3 to the dealer twice and was told they found nothing. When I start my truck people actually turn around and ask me whats wrong with it. It sounds like very loud piston slap. Its embarrassing. Before leaving the second time I made the manager come out to the truck with me to hear the engine. He all of a sudden got real nervous. I started the truck and there was the noise. He told me that it was an open case and if it kept happening that I should bring it back. I feel that they really wont give a damn now because they are not making the H3's anymore. So tuesday I will make another attempt to have it fixed. I plan on buying the truck at the end of my lease because they took $11,000 of the sticker price so my buy back would be around $13,000. Any advise???? thank you

is it still under the factory waranty? and how many miles, year is it? I would keep it because under the factory waranty they will replace it, and even if you get the extended waranty it will still have the same effect depending upon which extended waranty you choose. good luck

 

My 07 H3 has that cold engine start up rattle. Lasts 3 or 4 seconds. Sounds like lifters pumping up.I tryed a heaver grade oil & it helped a little. Should be covered under the 5yr/100000 mile warrenty. As soon as something else fails I am going to drop it off at the dealer. Tom, south florida

 

My '09 has that clatter as well on start up. 29k on the clock.
