Default Engine and electrics completely shuts off.

I've just purchased a 2008 H3. First day I got it I noticed the clock was wrong. I set it and then when I woke the next day and was driving to work I noticed the time was wrong again so I set it.

Used the car all day and had no problems. In the evening my wife went to fetch the kids. As she was driving down our street the car completely shut off. No engine and no dash lights. She put it in Park and got it started again. Straight away I took it for another drive and all was fine.
Is this a known issue?

Couple questions....

Do you have a sunroof?

Do you still have the OEM for crap Battery Terminal Connectors? If you do, get rid of those and replace them with a quality aftermarket set of terminal connectors, like Stingers or you pick the brand.

While you are at it, check your battery voltage. If it is weak, it freaks out the system.

You are basically driving a computer, the PCM and BCM are sensitive to minute changes in voltage caused by a weak or failing battery, and/or poor battery connections. The OEM terminal connectors are complete junk, replacement is the FIRST mod you should do to rule out other problems.

It appears to be a poor ground connection. Start with the battery terminals, if issue still occurs, check/clean all ground strap terminals, there are many. GL

Thanks for the reply guys.

Yes I do have a sunroof it is the luxury model.

I will start by replacing the battery terminals and cleaning the grounds. Could you please give me a link to the stingers?

And is there a manual or diagram to show all the earth points?

Sounds like youre having the same issues I am. I've got a thread about it here:
https://www.hummerforums.com/forum/h...ke-down-33722/

The battery terminals weren't my problem, but the stingers look way cooler, and will keep me from having any problems with the terminals later. $50 well spent I think.

If you havent done the sunroof drain fix yet, do it ASAP. Its not all that hard, its free, and it keeps some expensive electronics from getting a shower. Theres a write-up here:
https://www.hummerforums.com/forum/h...n-tubes-28548/

Do you get a check engine light and/or any messages on the DIC when it shuts off? If so have you pulled the code(s)?

Today it did it a few times. Once as I turned the key to start I heard what sounded to be a relay click a few times. It wouldn't start and it flashed a engine check light a few times. Turned key off then on and it started fine. A little while later it shut off in traffic. Had to select Park and then it started.
A while later when I shut off the car the relay noise went for a second. Radio, dash everything was off.

I installed the stingers (SPT55301) that covers the terminals (Sealing from moisture=prevents corrosion)

They are cheap on ebay:

Electrical wiring found here:

Bad advice, because You got hosed! No pun intended. lol
Take your pcm apart and look at those water tight seals in it. You could submurge it in water and it will still be operating properly, with no damage!

once you know you have solid connectors you should read batt volts before starting, appx 12 v then started about 15v dropping down to 14 shortly.
a "weak"batt wont start you or cause trouble IF you start!. if you start the alt if good should put out 15 volts on startup. it keeps the volts where they belong. not the batt
