yes I take insulin 3 shots of humalin 70/30 and anywhere from 7-10 shots of humalog per day. total of 10-13 shots per day since 1998.
I am missing the organs due to a sever pancreatitis on june 4th 1998. I was hospitalized on June 4 and was finally released on November 13. Basically your pancrease creats insulin and Bile (sp) bile is like battery acid and when you have a pancreatitis attack the pancrease becomes inflamed and any bile that seeps out burns anything that it touches. My attack was so severe that every internal organ in my body was burnt, doctors said I had the equivalance of 3rd degree burns over 90% of my body, but on the inside. I died twice but brought back, my family was told to get my affairs in order because I had no chance of making it home, I stil remember laying in the hospital bed under a sedation coma hearing the docs tell my mom that....most painful thing I will ever have to hear. Anyway my case was so severe that specialists from around the country starting taking interest and one Doctor from Miami flew up to NJ to see this Pancreatitis case he heard about. He is a Pancreatic disease specialist and said he never saw anything like it before, he put me on NO FOOD OR LIQUIDS...nothing for 8 months!! I was 235 pounds benchpressing over 400 when I went into the hospital, after 7 months of no eating or drinking I came out 104 pounds! I got alot of other crap also because my immune system was shut down, it was pretty much a ****ty summer in 98. I finally had surgery to remove my pancrease or what was left of it, my spleen which was enlarged 8 times it's normal size from bieng burnt, gallbladder which started this mess by letting a gall stone loose and it then ended up in my pancreatic duct, and the bad kidney was left in but doesn't funtion that great. Basically I am living without a vital organ that you are not supposed to live without, my doctor calls me Miracle Mike.
sorry to bore you...but you asked for it

thanks guys.
dennis I had the pump and hated it, everytime I would crawl under my truck to tinker or do any sort of work the damn needle for the pump would pull out of my skin. I got sick of the hassel so went back to needles.
I used to use diabetic supply but medicare only pays for the test strips tester and lanclets so I just go through my local Medicine shop. He lets me run a tab which makes it much easier because even only paying my $10-$20 copay my monthly bill is still over $500.
I can cope in everyday life ok, I bowl on a semi-pro level and fish regional BASS tornies when I can. I just can't commit to anything constant, like work, because some days I can hardly get out of bed. It sucks and some days I wish I would have not made it out of the hospital because the pain is so severe, but looking into my sons eyes cheers me up and gives me the strength to keep going.
