Default Dreaded #8 Cylinder Problem?

I know that 98 into the 2000 models had the bad blocks and the number 8 cylinder wall is a ticking time bomb, but that a lot of engines were replaced under warranty with a corrected block.

My friend is clearing some space in his car barn for some new toys and I just added a new lift in the garage, so I can shuffle some cars around and make room for it in mine.
The problem is that it's a 2000 model with a build date of 2/11/2000, so I assume it came with the b

Can anyone confirm that this truck came with the bad block?
Or run the service history and see if shows being replaced previously?
The VIN is 137ZA9035YE188244.

My buddy bought it about 5 years ago, but doesn't know anything about the history and has probably put less than 1K miles on it since he's owned it. However, the truck has nearly 40k on it, so maybe it was replaced under warranty previously?

I won't put but maybe 1k/year (if that) on it, so it's not something that's going to driven all over the place, but I don't want to be replacing a blown engine due to a known issue that I could have avoided either.

The Vin does not call out a GEP enhanced block. If it did the 4th digit in the VIN would be an F. Enhanced blocks were put in before the GEP produced blocks so the F designation is not absolutely the only proof it is a heavy block. There are some minor differences in the blocks but I would have to look at my blocks to tell and I likely won't be close to the trucks for a few weeks. How many miles are on the truck? Most engines blew within 30K but my 98 engine went at 82k. Heat is what killed them. The bad blocks went in TD trucks from 96 well into 2000.

Yeah, Z engines are at risk, but like 3hummers said, it's usually heat that kills them.
According to some sources from GM, blocks built after VIN # 137ZA9037YE188469 are not at risk, but I can't confirm that. And your VIN comes before that, so it doesn't matter anyways.
If you get a good deal on the H1, it might be worth the risk. Worst case, you're going to replace the engine, but there are many options for that.
I've got a GEP P400 in mine and love it. Good power and fully forged.

Thanks for the input guys.
The truck has something around 40k miles on it and I'd be getting for a very fair price ($45k), especially considering all of the extras it has on it.
Here's a link to an old ad for it (I have no idea how old the ad is):
2000 Hummer H1 FOR SALE from Bradley Maine @ Adpost.com Classifieds > USA > #448046 2000 Hummer H1 FOR SALE from Bradley Maine ,free,classified ad,classified ads,secondhand,second hand

The boxes on the back are gone, and he's changed all the lighting to LED and put a very nice, very custom stereo in since he's owned it. In addition to brand new Nitto Grappler (can't remember what series, but nasty, gnarly tread) tires.

Is there somewhere to look or call and see if the service records indicate the engine was previously replaced under warranty?

Call Mike Saberesse at Tustin GMC. They used to be a Hummer dealer and Mike is one of the original H1 mechanics. He will be happy to run the VIN for you.

I bought a 10,000 mile takeout motor from a Duramax conversion. Had an entire motor swap done for about $4200.00.

Thanks 3. I'll give him a shout.

Nice Indy. Mine's not silver anymore though. Painted it Lamborghini Balloon White about a year and half ago. Looks amazing.
