Default Dealer's asking for $2000.00 for DVD installed???

I went to the dealership to inquire about in dash- DVD Multimedia etc, and they said $2000 PLUS TAX INSTALLED. I said holy crap that's too much!!!!

My friend told me installing them are quite complicated and he's afraid he might messed up, btw he's a pro and he's been on this kind of job for awhile now. But I also want to listen to his advice to avoid complications with the warranty so I went to the dealership and inquire .

Do you think my friend is lying to me???

Help...Thanks

I had a pioneer avh-3100dvd installed in my h3 by audio shop guy I know.I bought the head unit for $299 online and he covered the wiring, modules, wiring and the dash kit and install a course. The cost of labor for installation of it all he charged me maybe $150.00. The gmos module which is needed to intergrate the cars onstar "chimes" and other functions he charged most likely around and $100 for that and between the dash kit, wiring and he installed the override switch so I can watch dvds while driving . Thats about another $100, so you should not really pay more then $400 for a headunit install and thats being generous. It isnt hard its just a bit time consuming, I would have installed my own stereo which I have done before but. I had the urge to get a new stereo in the middle of the winter without a garage to work in lol. Good luck with your situation the dealer is ripping you off badly and your friend either A. doesnt wanna take on the task or B. isnt as experienced as he seems. Reason I say this is, the guy I know that did mine is good but most of his jobs are putting things in peoples cars they were too lazy or dont have time to figure out or to do themselves. Here is picture of mine installed.

Yeah youre probably right, I think I'd rather buy a headunit from EBay and send it to the shop like you did.
Thanks Tony.

i could see it justifiable if they were installing an absolute top of the line head unit, i paid around 900 for my head unit (pioneer avic-x910bt, amazon) and all the other parts (crutchfield) and installed it myself
