Custom Painted OEM Wheels
#2
I think I like them. It will be interesting to see how they hold up. Powdercoating is the best IMHO when coating wheels but this idea looks cool/different. Let us know what you did to acheive this paint job and what you used.

I taped off the outside and sanded down the rest of the wheel and then painted it with Dupli-Color black paint (3 coats) and then used Dupli-Color Gloss Clear Coat (3 coats) I'd love to be able to get them powder coated this way. Im really liking the way it looks but for now its cheaper to spend 50 bucks and a weekend of my time. Ill keep you updated how it holds up once it sees some mud.

My center caps were begining to lose some of their finish so those were a must to paint for me. Yea maybe I will paint the hubs when I ahve the wheels off to paint the calipers. Thanks for the motometal comment! I cant wait to get some 35 Nitto Mud Grapplers! Then it'll look a lot better. Next mods are getting rid of some chrome. maybe bedliner the grille? Or I might use a black chrome paint that goes over the original chrome and gives it a kind of shadowed chrome look.

Looks good. Changes the whole look of them. I had been toying with the idea of masking off all of the flat surfaces and painting all of the recess' black. I've always hated the brake dust build up and the struggle I've had with keeping them clean. I just have not had the guts to take the chance and do it. I was thinking of trying the plastic dip to get the feel. This way I could peel it off if I did not like it. Just seemed like a lot of work to do twice on each wheel.
