I work for a GM dealership and we took in a 2007 H3...Adventure package, Luxury package, offroad option....75k miles. The vehicle looks great and seems to run well. Fairly well taken care of. But....

Had a new automatic transmission installed about a year ago because the cooler in the radiator went bad and coolant got into the tranny. Good that it has a new tranny....but...

now there is apparently ATF in the coolant (but no coolant in the ATF). At first it was diagnosed as oil but on further inspection they decided ATF. So now the diagnosis has changed from a head gasket job....to flush, new radiator, new hoses and coolant. That sounds good because the price will end up being less but I heard there was a head gasket problem in 2006 and not sure if/when they changed anything to resolve that issue.

I am not overly familiar with this vehicle but learning fast. Alot of folks have made comments to talk me out of buying it because "the prices are really soft" or "parts are really getting hard to find" but other than the issue I mentioned it seems like a nice piece.

Any comments on the comments (parts an issue??, etc)...or comments on the issue its currently having....or anything else, are appreciated. Also....was thinking about getting an extended warranty even though they are really pricey. At least it would offset my cost if they are wrong on the oil or ATF issue.

Would love some input. I am a newby here, as of today. Thank you.

Parts are NOT hard to find. Lots of places to get wear parts. Rockauto.com is my first choice, followed by the online GM parts sites, GMPartshouse, Gmpartsdirect, etc.
You can still get stuff from auto parts stores, NAPA, Advance Auto, Autozone, PEP boys, etc.
Body parts are a different story but there are plenty of H3's in junkyards and all years are the same.

There were some head issues on the 2006 3.5l I5 motors and some early 2007 3.7l I5 motors.
The truck you are looking at may have had it taken care of already.

Be careful on getting an extended warranty. In my experience, I have seen that the warranty companies will use every excuse in the book to avoid paying out.
