2 pics of my truck, black nerf and now I have the OEM Rock rails. The rock rails are no step unless your a kid, I personally did not like the combo of the step/rail. My truck is a pain to get in for some but it works just fine for me.

 

If you want I seen someone install a 1" block between the slider and the frame to push it out and use a step.

 

why not just weld a V-shaped piece of steel about 10" long to the sliders where you want the step to be if you need a step?

It looks better without the steps, I can imagine getting in could be a little awkward without steps though.
