collant in tranny
Okay. I'm just repeating what I was told by someone who has been in the radiator business all of his life and took the time to show me radiators taken apart and what happens to them. I guess that info is not for everyone... Absolutely no offense to you, but I think I will take his side in this one since it is his job. He wasn't trying to sell me anything because by this time I had already bought from him what I was going to buy.
BTW - there is no plastic involved with the trans cooler. You can take the plastic radiator completely off of it and still have a closed steel system. Something is breaking down he steel. Radiators have been heat cycling for years since that is their function. No reason for them to break down because of that. Electrolysis makes sense and has been proven.

I understand that and am not saying at all that it doesn't happen. My thought process is just that radiators/trans coolers have been made this way as long as automatic transmissions have been made. The variable here is the new style DexCool coolant. It just reacts differently than the old stuff. That has been proven to cause major problems. I'm sure there are other variables too but the DexCool is definitely causing problems. I'm just saying that their appears to be an inexpensive alternative to modifying your entire system with external trans coolers and all that stuff. The smart money would be for anyone to spent the $9 and try to offset the effects of the DexCool.
A lot of people probably don't realize how the trans cooler in the radiator works. I know I didn't. I figured it was a series of tubes that run up into the radiator. That is not the case at all. It is actually just like a tiny radiator inside a radiator and it just runs between the two trans lines.
This is a factory trans cooler. The aftermarket one is about 1/3 this size...
