I'm not sure if I have an issue with it or not. To differentiate between THCI and CHC iswe do not have TCHI putting links to their website on our website as CHC did. We all visit other websites so there is nothing wrong with that but is it kosher to have other forums coming to this forum to advertise for members and activity? We don't generally let other forums do it ( Elcova, HummerAddicts, gmhummer, etc ) so where do we draw the line? I went to the site...looks good. Quite a number of Hummerforum members post there. I guess my take on it is that Patrick has to make this call. Maybe the answer is a reciprocal link agreement...I don't know but I think this gets answered above our pay grade.

Is it Kosher, NO! thats why I sent it to useless post, I've been a chapter VP now for two years with this club, the forum has been around for years, I've been active withthe HF forum since Jan 01 2008 and I have been here every single day since, not once have I posted or promoted the CHC since I've been here, so all this to say there is no line to draw, because the CHC should not be posting stuff here to promote their forum, now, 3hummers to answer your question if you have an issue or not, you do! otherwise you would have PMed me about it instead of starting a thread on it, if something like this ever happens again then just PM me and I'll take care of it like I did earlier.

BB I posted about it to get a consenus of opinion before anything was said or done about it. I wanted other people's perspective in case I was not thinking about some aspect of it. You are right...my initial first impression was that this didn't seem like something that most forums would allow. I mean why advertise for the competition. I actually like the site and with Hummbob, Waxy, you and others there is a great nucleus of people over there. I did not know you had any official attachment to the other site or I would have PM'd you first.

I'm actually a little confused.... we do allow THCI to run amuck on here.... we do have their CFO posting.... Many of us are members....We do advertise them and their events damn near daily....

What's wrong with the CHC doing what they did? That was a simple, tasteful TADA... Here we are....

It's all good 3Hummersyour doing what you should be doing as a Mod, and my mistake for thinking you knew I was involved with the CHC, I was just a little surprised when I came on this morning to see what was going on, Norm, the president of the CHC apologized to me about it, I guess he's just excited about the new website and forum, but again I don't think he went about it the right way given that fact that he knew I was a mod here.

I think the difference is that THCI doesn't have a link to their forum on this forum. Outside of that I don't see an issue. If people want to post CHC events in the event section, no issue. If people want to include CHC membership in their sig/moniker, no issue. If people want to go to that forum, no issue. I had no idea that forum even existed before the post. My only concern was posting a link to another forum here. I haven't seen any other forums with links except when someone is trying to get an HF member to an article/site for help on a specific topic or repair.
Whatever the admins/Patrick and the rest of the moderators want to do is fine with me but this was an odd situation that needed to be discussed.

That's not the first time a link to another forum has been posted here... the rules clearly state

7.

No promotions of other related sites. There is no problem with occasionally using the name of other sites or even posting a link to a pertinent thread from another site, but repeatedly referring to other related sites is considered "SPAM" and is not allowed. Please have the decency of NOT putting links to them in your signature, profile or have a post, PM or Chat telling our members to come over to another related site. Such activity is ground for removal from signature, and repeated offenses are grounds for being banned.[/align]

and let's be honest here.... almost every one of us are guilty of breaking at least one rule a day... admin, mods, and members....

Pertinent language being link to a pertinent thread not the forum itself. It isn't worth arguing about. If everybody thinks it is ok I am ok with it. I thought it was something the mods should be aware of and discuss and we have. Whatever the group thinks is appropriate is ok.

You have to be realistic about it.... no harm is coming out of it... nobody is going to run over there and leave this place for greener pastures... that happened last year and guess what... most of them are back...

It's also unrealistic that no site that isn't paying for this site is going to be excluded... afterall we throw sites like 4wheelparts weekly and they are not a vendor...

I've seen things like this come and go for years.... no good ever comes out of it... it's usually best to let them have their thread andthat'ssimply because we can't control PM's.... and if we could then the fun of the forum is gone...

Actually this thread reminds me that we all agreed on starting a club section and it just died, maybe this is something we should look at again, but.........thats admin who has to take care of that, but they don't seem to be around to much these days......I'll continue this conversation in the ROTY.
