Changing to Synthetic Oil
I believe you dafi.... engine stress in your location is much more severe...
I also think it has some to do with oil quality... not all are created equal...
and if you read enough on people claiming excessive engine wear and the start up knocking... it also makes sense...

theres opinions and then theres facts. i refuse to accept or believe that any decent modern oil will effect how "rough" an engine runs. thats like a 'consensis". if theres a consensis that says you can mix water in your gas,,,will u do it?.
certainly synth is a better lub for long term but if you can notice a roughness with reg oil u better see your "doctor",report to gm right now.
you know the global warming croud claimes "a consensis of scientists say co 2,,,,"
you dont vote on science,it has to be proved using specific techniques.
gm has an oil spec, and they say to use 5w30. no brand or type of oil is mentioned, just the spec number.
if they said "some reg oils will cause roughness", id rather not buy the vehicle. sounds like a oddball engine. sorry,i dont believe you

tom might not have the most 'diplomatic' way of getting his point across, but, I have to agree with him on this one. I can say for sure, that different quality oils can cause an engine to run smoother or rougher in a 2 stroke engine, but that oil is part of the combustion process as well as lubrication.
thats another topic. supposed newer tech engines like lighter oil, lower friction,,,they say??
im surprised any eng can run like these new ones. i bot a used trans sport with 123k,still using it at 145k,oil pressure dropping slowly so ill drive till she blows.i do put 10 40 in it maybe 20 50 later!!
but hey they are the ones who give the incredible 100k warr!! they must know sumpthin.
but they're not fussy about anything cept their spec # and 5w30.
btw i had to use 20 50 in an 74 econoline to streach it to 144000. on a cold day it would start, then oil lite came on cause the thick stuff layed up in heads.had to start it abt 8 times b4 heads got warm enuf to "melt"the ahl!! oh the good old dayz

yeah,i had a few 2.3's,surprised it had the power to move that thik ahl!
the 71 pinto 2.0 was A motor,i think from germany, then ford had a better idea,the 2.3!
btw i put a 2.8 v6,(79 stang) in an 80 pinto, it ripped with a 4 speed.
btw, btw, that 71 pint was my last NEW car till the 2010 h3 adv!!

I had an interesting conversation with my dad about sythetics yesterday. I use all synthetic fluids in my modern vehicles, traditional in my VW. I told him I put royal purple in my diffs and he was shocked I used synthetic. My da is an expert in machining particularly high speed applications. He said in his experience using many different fluids during the high speed process, synthetics are not able to duplicate the lubricity of traditional oils when both are fresh. He agreed that over time synthetics do not break down as traditional oil does but that concern is countered by frequency of oil changes when you do it as required.
I still feel that in something like the differential where the fluid is expected to last 50k miles, synthetics would be a more reliable choice but for engine oil he almost has me convinced.
I'm sure someone will rip me on this and say my dad doesnt know what the hell he's talking about, and maybe he doesn't, but it was interesting conversation.
Tom have you heard this crazy talk about the world being round?

actually theres a secret herd of dinos roaming around "dropping"crude ahl here n there, how else could we have enuf to do 5000 mile changes. when we run out of dinosaures,,,we done driving!! so put out some dino food tonite
