Default Cargo Rack

I thought some of you folks may be interested in the cargo rack that I designed and built specifically for my H3. It is very heavy-duty, virtually indestructable and resolves the issue of rear marker lights that I've read so much about on these forums. I never considered selling these, but I have had quite a few inquiries (both here, other forums and in person), so here are the drawings that I did on it (yes, I'm an engineer). If you're interested in one, I will sell them at my cost to anyone on this forum. They are powder coated (any color/texture of your choice), aluminum or steel cages (your choice - price may vary), Class III - 2" receiver with trailer wiring so you don't have to give up your hitch, LED marker lights, high quality 3M side reflectors, adjustable "anti-wobble" arms w/lock nuts, chrome metal HUMMER logo (you apply - I don't have permission from GM!!). Note: The cargo door will only open half way with spare tire on, otherwise, not a problem. I can design a swing away cage upon request. Personally, this has never been a problem for me and I keep this rack on 75% of the time. The one pictured in the photo is not as wide as my drawings. It is 48". The new version I drew today is 56"Wx26Dx6"H outside and 54"Wx24"Dx6" Inside with holes for straps, bungies, etc. Installation is as simple as putting a hitch in the socket. I would recommend a locking 5/8" pin. As for a price, I will get back to you on that. I have no idea what it cost me to build mine as I had full access to a fab shop and material at the time. There isn't anything remotely this rugged or available for the H3 on the market that I've been able to find, hence why I designed and built my own. If you have an H2, I can design and build them for those as well. I have two neighbors with H2's (H2 and H2T) that I can use as test models.

You can't buy these anywhere. I designed and fabricated it myself. These are my CAD drawings. I will post my cost to make it in a day or so and will gladly offer them at that price (no markup) plus shipping costs. I'm not trying to market these, I'm just an enthusiast and when I can't find what I want, I make it myself! ...and just supporting my fellow Hummer enthusiasts. I can tell you you that this isn't a China made $100 POS! This is a heavy-duty, hand made structural piece of equipment with a ton of attention to detail and quality, for lack of a better description. Will

I hear ya! I literally keep mine on almost all the time. I'm always going to Lowe's or Home Depot and hauling stuff that I'd rather not put inside the vehicle, like fertilizer, greasy parts, etc. The cool thing is that I can also hook up my trailer (which I also designed and built) to the cargo rack and get even more hauling room. I do however suggest if you are going to tow or haul a lot of weight to consider adding the Airlift helper airbag "springs" to the rear suspension to keep the vehicle level. I haven't done this yet, but I plan to order the kit tomorrow.

These guys seem to have the best price that I have found:

Okay folks, I just got back from speaking with my fabricator. The rack as illustrated in the first post will cost me $650 each if powder coated. If painted, he thinks he can save ~$50, maybe more. Either way, they will be sand blasted and primed prior to final coat. I can't stress enough, I am NOT marketing these nor am I wanting to make a profit. It just complicates things with Uncle Sam. It will be the last rack you will ever buy and is interchangeable between different vehicles despite being designed for the H3. I will arrange for shipping if you want and again, whatever the cheapest rate I get is what you get and I will provide the receipt.

All you need to do is specify what color you want and any other custom options or sizes. As long as it stays under 60", the price will not go up...and trust me, you don't want more than 60"! We can also modify these to accomodate a motorcycle for an extra charge.

If interested, PM me and we will work out the details. I have a PayPal account, so I suspect I can receive credit cards through that...??? I'll look into it.

Great Inginuity!!

One thing I wish I could do on the Hummer is put the back window down so i could get in there when i have a cargo rack on. I have one that just goes in the hitch and the spare stops me form opening the door, even when the rack is empty because it has a full rear rail, but I like yours ALOTbetter than ours we got from Cabela's. Especiallythe bolt on Support arms , as our rocks a little on bumpy roads.

Nicely done!
