Do you run the AC or defroster often?

I got an 06 h3 with 44000 miles and I get the same smell once in a while, I live in Central New York, the smell is in the cargo area and in the same spot underneath the vehicle. It's weird though it doesn't happen all the time and I recorded the times it did happen, like the weather, how far I drove that day, and it doesn't seem there is a pattern to it, but hey you never know, I asked the dealership and they are like "what a good looking question"?
