Broken Rod Hall Shock
Hi... I'm new to the Hummer scene. I recently purchased an 03 H2 with 79k, was owned by an older couple since new, never used for off roading. Anyways when I took it on a test drive and all seemed well, did notice a slight knocking or clattering noise coming from the right front suspension area, thought it might be a missing brake pad spring clip and a pad clattering over rough surfaces. Purchased it despite clattering front end. Took it home removed the tire and found that the right front shock was broke at the base mounted to the lower A-Arm, this is something that I may not have been to concerned about but since they were the Edelbrock Rod Hall Xtreme Shock, I'm baffled as to how it would break like that being how well they were originally developed. Has anyone else had these shocks fail like this? At over $800 to replace each shock its doubtful that I will use the same shock, even if they were still available.
Is there a way to get the original equipment list for Hummers using my VIN.? Tried using GM/Hummer website to get it and they did respond but was sent an equipment list that didn't appear to be a list for a Hummer, showed it came with a 3.6 liter engine?? Not sure that Edelbrock will stand behind a shock that may be 13 years old, but worth a try I guess...
here's the OEM shock I ordered and installed:
