Broke the u-joint

Broke the u-joint
My H3 started rattling this week, likely after last week's off-roading, and I took it to the dealer. Looks like the u-joint is shredded. They are replacing that piece and a cross member but the fix won't be until Tuesday. They gave me a good loaner, a Caddy DTS, but I still feel like I'm driving my grandfather's Caddy.
The rattling sounded like bolts and washers in a tin can, located right under the front seats floorboard. All appears to be covered under warranty. Nothing hit under there, I think it just broke from stress. [/align]

u-joints are meant to be the weak link in the divetrain for a reason...much better that than a major component...it was the front u-joint?

alrock, how many miles you have on yor 3? Been 20 since I have been to AZ, the Tempe to Carefree area is a beatiful thing. I bet it's built up aye. Damn I'm jealous!!! Hey what's the name of that bar/restaurant south of Pheonix on the hill where everybody's tie gets cut off and hung on the wall. I got one in there some where.

I've got 9600 miles on the H3 with about 5 off-road trips. Only one or two of those would've tested the u-joints at any time.
Yeah, Phx is built up! I've been here 13 years and it's been crazy. There's lots of off-roading within 30-60 minutes from here though last Sunday it was 114 out in the desert. I think the restaurant you are thinking of is Pinnacle Peak Patio where they cut off your tie if you wear one into the restaurant. There's one NE of Phoenix and one in Tucson.

Thanks. Enough with that off-roading 30-60 mins out a town [sm=smiley19.gif] I only wish. I think that IS da place. Yepper. If the 3 had a 2wd Transfer Case, you could take out the front and drive home without all the bolts in a can gig? Oh well. I really don't know why 2wd is not an option for street?
