Default brake light problem

here on the Gulf Coast we received 5.5 inches rain in about 4 hours January 1 and additional 6 " rain in about 2 hours on the 2nd. In my 2007 H3 I had water everywhere it was not supposed to be. My biggest issue is that the left rear brake light comes on and stays on for a long period of time then goes off. I have cleaned the connector and applied die-electric grease and the problem was cured until I later decided to drive to town and the problem returned. Any suggestions as where to look. I am beginning to think I have an exposed wire or shorted connector some where. Any help ?????

Check the trailer wire harness behind the rear bumper where they attach the harness to the frame.

I MOVED this from the FAQ section...... where it says at #4 sticky post:

If you have a sunroof, your drains are clogged and that results in a wet BCM. Like opening the door with a neon sign that says "Welcome Electrical Gremlins."
