Default brake light problem , diode?

I have a 2005 h2 and my drivers side brake light works sometimes but most the time not. I have changed the bulbe and messed with the wiring. There is a gold alum little junction box that has 2 wires going in and one out. What is this little box? about a 1 inch square and a 1/2 inch thick. I purchased new and have never had anything done. HELP!!!

Do you have the correct bulbs? Please check first you are using correct bulbs.Have you checked the socket ,Where the bulb is inserted in? corroded/burnt contacts will not make a good connection. Please first check these two things.
