Did it set off any sensors or anything when u took off the old muffler?
you will not trigger any error codes by removing your muffler. The only time you will run into a error code issue is by removing your cats.

i'm not mechanically inclined... i change my own oil but thats about it... ive read the forums about leveling it yourself... I'd screw something up...

I may go straight pipe no muffler but it scares me to run a 5 cyl with no muffler... i don't want to sound like a rice rocket but look like a hummer.lol

Removing the muffler with a straight pipe will not make your H3 sound like a tunner car with a fart can muffler. If you are considering an aftermarket muffler: Flowmaster, Magnaflow, ect. Have you exhaust shop cut off the stock muffler and start it up and see if you like the exhaust note. If not, have them install the aftermarket muffler. They have to cut the stocker off anyways, so you are not costing yourself any $$ by trying it.

Default exhaust

i know a guy with a colorado.. same motor... and he has straight pipes and it sounds good. but my next question is how do you attach the new pipe to the old pipe? do you weld it or is there some kind of clip you can slide it into to hold it on good...

Default flowmaster

I ended up going with the Flowmaster 50. it was a little more expensive but well worth it. I got it installed and all for $150. Sounds great. It really makes that 5 cyl sound like a small v8 and i can tell a good power increase when getting on the freeway and accellerating.

My friend has the 5 cyl colorado with a straight pipe out the back and it sounds like a weedeater... just sayin. spend $150 and get a good sounding muffler.

Anytime you run a straight pipe from an inline engine it will sound almost two cycle'ish. You get a different engine pulse from a V configured engine which usually equates to a much hearty and deeper sound.

Does getting rid of the cats help performance? And if you get rid of the cats how do you turn off the error codes?
