Default AWD reliability

Hey everyone,

I'm new here and like a lot of people I'm torn between a H3T and a Wrangler Unlimited. One question I have about the H3T is the AWD. Due to it running all the time, is there more maint. involved with it as oppossed to part time 4WD? Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated!

No additional maintenance compared to part time 4wd.

With the T, you have power running to all four wheel at all times, but when you're going down the road, the front and rear receive different amounts of power and can run at different speeds for cornering, etc. When your locked into 4 wheel, the front and rear receive the same amount of power and they will in unison.

With the Jeep everything is turning anyway because the front hubs cant be disengaged. You can then lock it just like you do in the T and have true 4wd.

So the only difference is that the front always gets power on the T as opposed to part-time on the jeep so stuff is turning anyway. Maintenace wise, they are different because one runs the solid axle (Jeep) and the other runs independent front suspension (T)

And if its any consolation, I've never been able to lose traction in the T with or without traction control. I haven't tried in snow yet though.

...& Jeep must be stopped/2mph crawl to shift into 4wd....no "Shift on the fly" (Jeep term)

-but more important; no rear seat head curtain air-bag in Jeep unlike H3/T

Which Jeep model cannot be shifted on the fly? My '05 Rubicon could at any speed but I have not driven other models for quite some time. Seems strange they are that way.
