Im not sure why you want them off during the day? They are called "day time running lights" for a reason. If someone thinks "hey look at that dummy that left their lights on" then they are the dummy. Its designed to make you more visible. Next time you drive East in the morning, or West at dusk, and the sun is blinding you, you can appreciate the extra visibliltiy the headlights give to the vehicle that has them on.
