anybody else notice this
you know when you drive a normal 4x4 in 4 high or low and you make a turn the front end luches? has anybody noticed that in their H3? I just started noticing it today, was wondering if I was the only one.
I noticed this when I kicked in the 4 High and 4 Low the first time. It lasted about five minutes and then went away. I think it was because everything wasn't lubed up right away. I was told once that if you have a 4X4 you should kick on the four wheel drive once a month for 5 or 10 miles just to get everything free and moving again.
yeah I have noticed some strange 4x4 turning behavior...mostly it just sounds like a wood chipper or something, so I havn't actually tried to turn the wheel very hard so I don't damage anything... but this is my first 4x4, so I wasn't sure if it was normal or not. my truck has ~900 miles on it now

Are you saying it's doing it in 4wd, or when it's supposed to be in it's 2wd (for lack of a better term) on the street?
It is normal for it to do it on a high traction surface like asphalt, or concrete when locked in 4wd... since those surfaces don't allow enough tire slipage for the differentiation in the system. In sand & dirt, the effect isn't noticable or is lessened dramatically. If it's doing it durring normal driving, on the street, then it sounds like your system is stuck in 4wd. I would take it to the dealer. While in 2wd there shouldn't be anything like that going on, if everything is normal. It should steer and feel like any 2wd vehicle would. My H3 feels normal when turning on the road.
On another note, this may be where you gad mileage is going. The fact that you are having this issue, and have gotten around 10.5 mpg lately, is probably pretty strong evidnce that the system is locked in 4wd. Time to take it in and get it checked out.
I should add that you should try selecting one of the 4wd options, and then putting it back in 2wd. Or simply, make sure it wasn't left in 4wd after a little wheeling, and never returned to the 2wd setting.
And yes, before everyone tries explaining to me that these are fulltime 4wd's, I know they are. It's just easier to say 4wd / 2wd for clarities sake. Also, in the event that anyone might think it's ok to leave the transfer case in 4wd while on the road, since the system is FT 4wd, don't do it. They are not the same.
Anyway, good luck with it. My guess is that is what's going on, and solving it may fix two of your troubles.
