I thought about that fireman, that I was stuck in 4wheel lock and that could be why my gas mpg has been crappy. I cycled through all the 4 wheel options and it is definately more pronounced in 4 lock than it is in regular full time 4.

The 4WD lock kicks out at 45 MPH..in case anyone forgets to disengage it after you hit the road from off roading.

I don't know, dude.. it sounds like it's stuck to me. I have zero effects while turning sharply in 2wd. If you're feeling something, then somethings wrong.. and it can only be the front end.

Maybe the actuator in the front axle isn't disengauging completely???

I'd take it in and let the stealership deal with it.

I'm starting to wonder though Dennis, if the electronic 4 wheel drive switches are broke and showing I'm in full time 4x4 when I am really stuck in 4 wheel lock, I wonder if the automatic kick out of 4 lock at 45 mph would work? I hate electronic 4x4 systems...give me a shifter on the floor anyday!

WHAT? Where did you get that from?

So, if I'm in 4wd high, going through some mud.. my system is going to drop back into 2wd? I doubt that very seriously. I know the rear locker will unlock above 20 mph, but that's not the same. Since there is no way for a vehicle to know it's on a raod vs. other terrain, then you're saying it unlocks the system anytime the wheel speed gets over 45 mph. [&:] I find it highly unlikley that GM or anyone else would design a system like that.. unless it was for people they figured would never use it.

I just looked through the owners manual and found nothing to support this, or where it says that. In fact, it says that when shifting into high lock, that the vehicle needs to be under 75mph so I can't see them saying that, if the system is going to kick back out if you're going say... 50mph when you engage the high lock.

I would, somethings probably going on. It's too much of a ku-weenkie-dink that you're getting bad mileage, and have noticed the binding when turning. If it's binding/lurching then somethings staying locked up front.

well if it does get determined that it's locked in 4, then I can tell you that the h3 handles great at 85 mph in 4 lock

Yup that's a fact jack...check it out for yourself and get back to me here, you can't believe everything in the OM is typ-o proof..at least on all the H3's I test drove, if the speed was above 45 the button would NOT engage or stay lit..I'm talking about the second button from the left.

Wow, I'll have to check that out. I will say this. If it proves to be true, then the H3's 4wd system, will prove to be the most worthless 4wd system ever created. I'm not simply going on just the OM. I've never seen a 4wd system that has disnegaged in high 4wd, or high lock at any speed. Some may have notations that discourage high speeds, but none that will unlock. However if the H3's proves to do just that, then it's pretty worthless... and I'll be glad it's just my wifes grociery getter.. and not my primary wheeler. [8D]
