I can tell you from first hand experience that Duratrac's are excellent in sand.
I drove around on barrier beaches last August and never felt like I was going to bog down.

 

MTZs are the best all around MT tire I have ever owned (and I've owned a lot of Mud Terrains).

Duratracs are a hybrid AT tire and the MTZs are a MT tire. It all depends on the terrain and what kind of sidewall strength you need/want.

My driving will be as a DD and off road in sand and mud. Not many rocks in the St. Augustine, Florida area.
Now I am going to show my lack of knowledge on off road tires. I understand what an AT tire is and understand the MT designation.
Here is the noobie question to off roading. Is an MT tire like the MTZ (which I love the looks of) not only good in mud but also good in sand and dirt? To an MT tire is there a difference in sand or mud as far as traction? If not then I will get the MTZ.
To guys that have off roaded before this is an elementary question but not to someone that has never been there. I am from the era of asphalt and driving in a straight line for a 1/4 of a mile.

 

DOC runs the MTZs also and loves sand. PM him your sand questions.
