Adventure Package
I'm purchasing my first hummer tomorrow (H3), and I'm stuck.
I really like the looks of the tactical package on the red h3... but i have found ONE adventure package in my area.
I've been told that the package is very nice and needed if you go off roading. Is that package worth it?
Also, biggest question, how is the rid of the adv. package during everyday driving vs. the std. package i'd get with the tactical h3.

You don't need the Adventure Package to take it off road. In fact, it is probably overkill for most applications. The statndard suspension and skid plate package is more heavy-duty than just about any other SUV on the market. Unless you some very extreem off-roading, the standard will serve you fine.
The standard suspension rides quite a bit better on road.. The Adventuregives noticeabley stiffer ride.
It just comes down to a matter of personal preference. Drive them both and see what you think.

the only difference the adventure has in suspension are different shocks......that's it! The adventure will give you a locking rear diff (only lockable up to a certain speed...not very high) and it gives you a borg warner 4:1 t-case which is actually tow low of a gear for most wheeling situations...if your into slow crawling over rocks, logs that sort of thing then the 4:1 and locker will be great...if you drive jeep trails, mud, stuff at more than 10 mph then the locker is a waste and the standard t-case gearing is actually better than the 4:1.
importkiller is correct. the only think i didnt like about the non adventure h3 off road was that the stock goodyears were not aggressive enough in mud or hill climbing. so if you get a non-adventure and want to off road, plan on upgrading the tires.
I bought my H3 about 3 weeks ago. I tested both adventure and standard packages, on the the street and highway and could not tell the difference between them. The difference is probably more noticeable off road. I bought the adventure package, the tires are 33" and more aggresive and the rest of the package may come in handy at some point, perhaps at resale time
Remember the old saying: It's better to have a gun and not need it, than to need a gun and not have it!!!!

My 07 Adventure rides just fine, I've driven both, ride difference is negligable. I got it for the rear locker, I know how to use it and have some places I go that makes it fun. I wanted a truck ready for my kind of wheeling. Everybody's needs/desires are different, you sure do not need an Adventure to go off road.
HummerMike has made an excellent point. If you have a 3 w/o the Adventure "offroad suspension package" or whatever they call it, and upgrade to some nice offroad tires (something with tread and quiet on pavement) you will be able to do more than my H3 Adventure with stock 33 Duelers. The stock 33sget by, great on the road, probly ok on rocks but I got non to be climing in MI, but are a compromise offroad for sure. They are a useable commodity, so I'm using them up
until I need some new boots!
