Default 35" Tires on Stock Rims -- Safe?

I just picked up a set of 35"Goodrich AT's (315/75/R16) tonight. From looking at the forums, it seems like they will fit my completely stock set-up with no rubbing (hopefully) except for maybe really tight turns. I can live with that. I read somewhere too that the spare will still fit on the door with a 35" tire.

I'm more concerned with the safety issue. I hear that it's not recommended to mount a 35" tire on a 7.5 inch rim. How serious is the threat of injury? What can happen? Has anyone actually experienced (or heard) of the tires coming off the rims?? Could this happen during normal highway driving (or just while wheeling?)?

The guy who sold me these tires previously (and successfully!) had them on a 7 inch rim... and Hummers are 7.5's. I do 99.5% highway driving (vs. offroading) with my H3. I also have kids so I am wary to do anything to put them at risk. I definitely appreciate anyone's input!

Yes, you can run them on your stock rims. You should be fine, as I can't guarantee your tires I haven't heard of anyone having problems with it except for the occasional rub as you mentioned

I've had 35's on mine for 25k miles, no problems.

7.5 is definitely the lowest suggested wheel width to mount a 12.50 tire on, but it still works.

I would not, and do not worry.

Ksteak, welcome to the forums. Now let's see some pics of the ride. (And thanks for actually using Search before you asked that question!)

You just need to be aware that the vehicle will tend to push a little more while turning at higher speeds.

Very nice.

You should crank the torsion bars and get it aligned now.
