Default 2009 Hummer H3T Alpha Test #2

Got about 3000 miles on my second H3t Alpha.(1st test report here http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=34738) Went for a color tour up to West Branch Michigan this weekend. Perfect day 70 deg and sunny. Colors about 70%. Averaged 17mpg on the way up. 130 miles up I75 at 75mph. I think the ride was about the same as an H3. I thought the longer wheelbase would give a better ride, but I think the spring rate must be stiffer in the 'T. I believe with a couple hundred pounds in the bed it would be better. Not that it was bad just no better than the H3. Ran some two tracks and some sand hills. I am use to wheeling SWB Jeeps, so the LWB takes some time getting use to. Turning radius is better than my CJ. LWB a definate asset on the hill climbes. Front locker and V8 are great in the sand.

More pics. Most of the wheeling in this area are tight two tracks, snowmobile trails and sand hills. The longer wheelbase of the H3T was never a problem. Sand is soft, fine and deep. Tire pressure needs to be about 10 to 15 psi. Pics arent the greatest because I was leading the pack most of the day (Of Course)
And most Jeep guys only want to take pics of Hummers stuck or broke down.

Cool pics.

Question: why usea locker in sand? I never use my rear locker in sand, just make sure my tires are at about 15PSI. Just wondering.

You need to take that thing to Silver Lake.

I see the link to the other forum doesnt work.

I had an early mule at Silver Lake in July.

I dont use the lockers all the time, but some of the hills in St Helens require it.

Here is my first test post, and pics.

Havent posted in a while. I got an Alpha for some testing. Going to Silver Lake Sand Dunes (Michigan) this weekend. V8, Front and Rear Lockers, 33" AT's. Will post some pics when I get back.

Backup camera in the Rearview mirror is cool

Couple of pic that I took,,waiting for others to send action shots. Averaged about 16mpg. 77mph with 4 adults and gear. V8 is a HUGE improvement over the I5's that I have driven. Lots of attention and positive comments around the style, size and power. Its very close size wise (height, and length. Not as wide) as a 1/2 ton extended cab short box Chev, Ford, Dodge. Front and rear locker worked great and did not dissengage if speed is over 20mph. Lockers only engage in 4L. Dont know if they are set to dissengage at any preset speed, they did not dissengage unless I did it manually. Spent most of the day with a friend and his 4 door Jeep Wrangler. Obvious power advantage over the V6. Sand blasted him all day The only issue I had is that the wheelbase is Longer than I am use to wheeling. I spend most of my time in a SWB CJ.
