Default 2008 sitting on bump stops

Had to change the starter today and while I was laying there I took a look at everything. The front bump stops, or what's left of them, are sitting on the lower control arms. Incorrect, right? Anyone know the nominal clearance I should see with new parts? I've been griping about the harsh ride for awhile and this probably explains it.

I'll try cranking the torsion bars but only about a half inch of threads left on those. Tires and wheels are stock size, truck has 135k on it. Should I go for the green keys to get better clearance? Ride really sucks on the canyon roads out here.

That is actually how it should be. Those are compression dampers and if worn out or the LCA's are not sitting on them it gets bouncy, a lot of front end dive when braking and generally rides worse....

I changed mine too. Mine were totally rotted away. After I put them on I could tell a difference in the ride. Mostly on things like hitting bumps at speed - would feel a little more planted and controlled, not diving so much in the front on braking, just overall a bit more controlled and stable feeling.

I replaced them on the 04 I had, but that truck was in a bad way anyway. There was no cushion material left, just a metal plate and the stud and nut holding them in place. These aren't that bad yet but they're pretty chewed up. Ordered a set yesterday.

I'm beginning to wonder if the harsh ride is due to the Nittos I'm riding on. My wife's does it, too, but my daughter's Titan has Nittos and rides pretty decent. Again, this is all on mountain roads that are mostly gravel and usually in lousy shape. On pavement it's not noticeable.
