2008 H3 Alpha - Transmission Slips into N
Hey All, not sure if this has been discussed in the past or not. But my H3 Alpha recently started slipping from D to N while at cruising speed. I'm curious if this is common, and/or if I am looking at a $3K+ Tranny rebuild...? Just broke 100K miles
-Happens when driving
-Happens within the first 5 miles
-Happens at any speed/gear/RPM
-Does NOT do this when 4x4 is locked in (only AWD)
-Makes a faint grinding noise at time of disengagement
Note: I am no longer driving the truck until I know what's up.
Hoping it's just electrical! Any info/direction to a thread etc would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Dan

The trans in our rigs is the tried and true 4L60E. It is in millions of rear drive GM vehicles. If it is slipping into neutral its not an electrical issue its inside the trans. Sounds like a sun shall issue. Might want to rebuild it before it becomes more expensive to fix...

I agree, if you know what the fix is, get it repaired before it becomes a much larger issue.

It just turned 100K in miles. 101,000 to be exact. Hoping the GM Factory Warranty will still work. Doubt it though, since it's an 08...
Thanks for the advice, it's got a Doctor Appointment on Wednesday, I'll let you know how it goes. More than likely the sun shell issue.
Are there any exploded diagrams of the transmission/transfer case that I can review before bringing it in? So I know the lingo....

Well... Completely NOT what I thought it was.... Front axle was chewed up and spit out of the front differential. They said the front Diff was perfect, but the end of the axle was mauled off almost completely.
They said they've never seen anything like this. VERY STRANGE.
Never heard a noise, never saw any symptoms. There was fluid leaking from the seal, but I didn't notice that as I was focused on the transmission etc.
So... $429 out the door. DODGED A BULLET.
