2007 Transmission Swap Candidates - 4L60E
Need to replace/rebuild the transmission in my wife's 2007 H3.
The 4L60E is a *very* common transmission, making me a bit unsure about buying an already rebuilt (or pulling one from a wreck/pick-n-pull).
Will any 1997+ 4L60E work? Or should I be looking for something in particular?
Thanks. Sean.

I believe for the most part, the newer the better. When the AT failed in our '06 at around the 150K mile mark, I researched the 4L60E for rebuild ideas. It seems there are several weak links with this series that GM and the aftermarket have addressed with heavy duty replacement parts over the years. Another option would be to buy a complete performance rebuilt transmission ready for installation from a reputable shop.

When my trans went out last year, I ended up having my stock one rebuilt... The only thing they reused was the case because all the internals were fried! I got all of the available upgrades, with all new parts, and it was cheaper than aftermarket. According to the shop, owned by friends do mine, it was also better than aftermarket. Some may argue that, so I am just repeating what my friend told me. He could have sold me a more expensive aftermarket trans that would have been less work for him, but he recommended this way.
