I do not know where you got your information, but the sound level of a 3.5 L52 I5 vs 3.7 LLR I5 GM Atlas motors identical in design except for the larger bore size in the 3.7L would sound as near identical as is possible to compare as they have essentially the same exhaust.

The 3.7L built after April 1, 2006 (all of them in the 2008) will have the corrected hardened valve seats in its head. That alone is the reason to look for a 2008 vs 2006. Many of the 2006s have had their original heads replaced now, so that would be less of a current issue.

If you do look at 2006s, you want one with a serial # higher than 287591, the build date should be after Nov. 2006 to rule out a bad first design head flaw if you do not have confirmation that the truck has a newer head.

Personally I would go 07 or newer. Stay with 3.7 or 5.3 (08 or newer) if funds allowed. 3.7 has slightly more power than 3.5.

From an interior stand point the 2008 had a redesigned driver's side window switch setup. Much improved over the 2006 / 2007.

Some 07s had the arm rest and switches that were forward as well. My 07 did not so I changed the door panels. They are much easier to see and use now.

Yes, that was a mid year change.
My 07 has the controls on the slant.

My 2006 H3's VIN falls within the range of bad cylinder heads, and hasn't been replaced. 94,000 miles and have seen a cylinder 5 misfire code approx 5 times. She has a terrible idle in the winter (replaced coil packs, new air filter, camshaft position sensors, super clean throttle body, stinger terminals, MAF sensor cleaned etc). Header bolts look ok. Under powered and the arm rest controls are miserable! Made for T-Rex!! But, I still love her... she's never left me stranded.
