2006 H3
Hi, I am going to be purchasing a 2006H3 Hummer in a few days and I have a couple questions. What is involved in the installation of an OEM Navigation unit, or is it not possible? And will I be able to install a back up camera into the OEM Navigation unit? And is there any thing I should look out for before I make my purchase?
Thank You,
Daniel

Daniel, I would tell you not to even bother with those two devices, the install would be way too time consuming. Go and buy a GPS and an aftermarket cam system if you really have to have them. In order to get the OEM in and functioning properly the dash would have to be opened up, which GM made a bitch to do. Then you would have to rewire to get the system to work properly. Or if you go to a audio install place expect to spend close to a grand in labor and materials. The back up cam requires eitehr a new bumper of modification to your existing one...
At any rate buy a hummer they kick ***, but the bells and whistles aren't that important... make sure you get a good deal.
I just bought an 06 base model with adventure package, and 17600 on the clock for 17500

Just my $.02 & lots of other folks have said it as well. Be aware that the '06 does not have as much power as '07 & newer. The change from the 3.5L to the 3.7L made a more significant difference than the spec's might indicate.
If'n I was you I'd sure test drive both an '06 & an '07 before I made my purchase. On t'other hand I'm sure the '06 are going for cheap.

Dan,
The Nav install is plug and play. When you install a used NAV you will get a radio lock up which won't allow you to use it. It thinks the NAV was stolen. Your Dealer can unlock it in about 15 minutes using a Tech ll tool. Cost is about $50.
I did a neat rear camera install and posted a thread with step by step instructions w/pictures on this website.
As others have said, the 2007 would be a better choice. The window switches were moved and the 3.7 engine change makes it worth while
