Default 2004 H2 Ignition Problem

I test drove a 2004 H2 tonight that required the cruise control button to be pushed in while turning the key in the ignition to start the vehicle. The salesman said it was a security feature. That's a clever sales pitch! Anyone know what could be the real issue? The gear selector also had considerable slop/side to side movement compared to my 07 H2.

It probably was a security feature from an aftermarket alarm. I would stick your head under the dash and see if there is a rats nest of wires under there.

Probably, otherwise this wouldn't make sense...I'm sure you can rewire if you want to.

04 wont be as refined as your 07...a couple more rattles If you're not 100% sure about this H2, walk away...there's plenty to chose from.

Thanks for the info guys. This H2 is for my dad(76yo)...He's been looking for a solid off-road/hunting/mountain vehicle. It has 112k and rides great with no rattles. The body & interior is clean(and carfax). The dealer was asking $17,900 but I need to work on that a little.
