So Ryan, What's your question? American cars all have a RPM and speed limiter. It can be unlocked with a specially tuned PCM like I have from PCM4Less.com

My question is is 121 the real top speed of the H3?? I mean, If the speed limiter, not the RPM limiter, was removed, shouldn't it be a lot higher than 121??

My gear throws are:
1st - 40
2nd - 75
3rd - tops at 100 because of speed limiter (@ like 4k RPM)

Shouldnt it be able to finish out third and then go into fourth and be going over 121?

Not really. I would think 121 was the "drag limited" top speed. Just because a car has an extra gear, doesn't mean it can go faster. The top gear is an over-drive gear, and is usually really tall. If the truck were to shift into this taller gear, the aero drag would off-set the power/extra gear, and the truck wouldn't go faster. Perfect example is the Corvette. Top speed is achieved in 5th gear. When you shift to 6th, the car actually slows because that tall of a gear can't push the vehicle against the drag. This is true in alot of high performance cars. In the case of the Hummer, I would think the laws of physics would be rearing their ugly head around 90-100, and the tall 4th gear would kill the party pretty quickly. I had a Lightning w/ 380 Hp and a 4 speed auto. Truck would pull 4th up to about 140mph, but it was only at like 3900 rpm. I still had 1300 rpm to go, but no dice. Wasn't bouncing off a speed limiter. Just couldn't push the brick any faster!

there is a lot that goes into top speed.... as mentioned aero drag is a huge factor.... you have a HP curve, then you have gearing then you have what all of that equates to with the aero drag / rolling resistance wanting to hold you back.....

a corvette has a top speed in 5th gear, even though its a 6 spd.... again its all about how the package is put together.... I have had my truck up to 80 MPH and thats plenty fast in my Hummer.... cruise at 65 is good for me....

I see... so basically, it's too big and 4th gear has no pull to it... gotcha thanks

Coming home on the I-5 from Sacramento last year I had my H3 at 100 mph when I backed off. It was windy and I knew I better back off before something bad may happen.

I thought they AUTOMATICALLY shut down at a certain speed???
They do unless you have a tuned PCM.
Gotcha Vader...Thanks
