Default 09 H3 electrical gremlin

First, I did search but no results for the wife's particular problem showed up....

Wife has an 09 that is currently experiencing an odd issue with the brake lights.
There have been around 5-6 occasions in the last month or so that when she has walked out to the vehicle, the brake lights have been on. On one occasion they were on long enough to run the battery down. Issue happened again today, opening and shutting the back door resolved it.

My initial thought is to dive off into the wiring at the back of the H3 this week when my time off for Xmas starts.

Anyone else experience something like this? I have seen several threads about only one side coming on and the BCM was the culprit. But I am not sure the BCM is the issue in this case since opening and shutting the rear door resolved it today.
Any spots in the back known for poor wiring issues?

I'd recommend checking, cleaning, replacing door switches. Also if applicable replace oem battery cables.

factory hitch wiring wears thru on frame and shorts some wires.
if you have it just unhook the plastic tab on the frame and check/fix wires

W on the trailer wiring harness being the issue. Check the harness for frays.

Found a broken wire on the harness just as you guys mentioned right next to a connector at the top of the bumper. Definitely had rubbed against the frame. Soldered and taped up heavily. Hopefully this will resolve the issue

Glad you found the issue and fixed it. That is what forums like this are for.
