Default $1200 to replace the exaust

Hello all my 2006 H3 has 130,000 miles and my muffler recently fell off. I took it to a mechanic and then to the dealer and received quotes of 1200 and 1300 dollars. This sounds crazy to me. For the short term the mechanic extended the pipe and made it come out on the left side.

I don't care about looks I care about the price. Any suggesstions are welcomed.

Thank You

Run it without the muffler. Lots of people do it. Ever since catalytic converters have been required lots of people take their mufflers off and just run with the car. You still have a fairly quiet vehicle plus you are still emissions legal if that is required where you live.

So it sounds like you are almost done!

And even if you want to have a muffler, you should be able to go to any muffler shop and have pipe bent and a muffler put on for a few hundred dollars unless you are replacing the entire system - front to back.

Here is a thread where several people talk about it.

Thank you songman.

On another note I took my h3 to have the left front seal replaced and the bracket. when the went to pull out the h3 the break pedal went to the floor. I have never had a problem with the brakes or brake pedal. They promised to fix it at their own cost.

Do you have any idea what they could have done that caused the brake pedal to go all the way to the floor?

On a side note: they provided me with a rental (2011 silverado crew cab) at no cost.

Well it looks as if you are out of warranty anyway so why stick with the OEM setup? Take it to a muffler shop recommended by a friend and have them give you a quote for the exhaust system you want or need. The cost plus custom bending and muffler should only be about $300 to $400 depending on the size and material of the pipe and what muffler you choose.

As far as the brakes go. They may not have bled the system properly or they bent or broke one of your lines. Hope they get it fixed for you soon!

Default Muffler on the cheap

I had the same thing happen, snapped off just past the over the axle hump. I took it to Midas and they put on a new muffler and added some additional hangers and braces for added support. Whole job done for about $300 and it sounds a lot better than stock.
