Default "SealCoating" your driveway

I get all of these fliers forSealcoating your paved driveway. I noticed that my asphalt driveway is already coming apart, even though its only been 6 months, the little grains of asphalt are coming off and creating small holes. I wonder if anybody knows anything about this sealcoating. I know people get it done and around where we are it's fairly cheap, but there has to be something you can buy to do it yourself. I would assume people just use some premixed solution and apply it with big rollers. If I can do it myself I'd rather do that then pay someone to do it. I never park on the driveway so I'm not sure if it's supposed to be deteriorating already or they did a half-*** job of it and that's why it is coming apart. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

Dunno about that since my driveway is concrete but I did have to seal it regardless ... just bought the stuff from Home Depot the builder recommended, a bunch of rollers ... and to town we went lol .... Not sure how involved the stuff is you mentioned but between Les and I we had the drive way, sidewalk, inside the garage, and front porch done in about 8 hours. This of course involved a high preasure washer and concrete cleaner as well ... then waiting for it to dry before applying the sealer.

Would be a good idea for your part of the country Mikey..Asphalt falls apart pretty quick..but I would go to Lowe's to get the sealer... Home Depot are a bunch of ******** and I will never spend another dime in their stores...(heres why http://www.hreonline.com/HRE/story.jsp?storyId=16514194 )

I don't like Home Depot too much either. Their policies are rediculous, as I posted about before. I have converted to Menards. I use the Hoe ****pot as a last resort now.

Anyway, does that sealer fill in the gaps or holes in the surface you are applying it on? Is it some kind of gel or just liquid?

It is a real thin liquid that you move around with either a short bristled broomor a squeegee...There is also a thick tar like stuff to fill the holes and cracks first..

My wife found a flyer for a company that specializes in sealcoating. They have a gaurantee and it's only $65 for a two-car driveway. I think that's a great deal so I'll probably do it. I remember the average price in our area was between $85 to $100. I just didn't realize it was that important. Another one of those "surprises" that comes with home ownership I suppose [:@]

Cool..Make sure they prep the driveway first...Like Nick said, a good powerwash to remove any oils and salts to keep the sealant from sticking..as I've seen some crap peel up after a short while.

Well, thier site says they powerwash it, fill in gaps up to 3/8" deep, then apply the sealer. I think that'sa sweet deal.

Yep, that's about what they wanted to charge me for just the drive way too .. then add my sidewalks which yes, I have to maintain since it's on my property .. and of course my front porch .. they wanted over $400 by the time everything was said and done. I spent $75 on the sealant, I had the power washer already, and I think it ran me about $10 in beer too LOL! In retrospect I wish I would've had it done though ... and I'll probably do so next season when I need to do it again...
