OFF-Road Event - Midwest - POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER

FINAL DATE: POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER, TBD - End Feb., Early Mar.

LOCATION: Badlands Off-Road Park -http://www.badlandsoffroad.com/
3968 North Xavier, Attica, IN 47918

VERIFIED AVAILABILITY: HummerGuy, jdrew, thehammerh3, ZYNE, HummerMike, HumminNBoatin

TIME: Meetin park between 9 AM and 10 AM

Jdrew is going to be on vacation for a week or two at the end of January, and called me about putting something together. Therefore, I'm going to try.

We don't know where yet, but most-likely it will end up at the Badlands Park ( http://www.badlandsoffroad.com/) in Indiana again, or possibly another location. We aren't sure if it's going to be a weekend event, or just one day. I'll make changes to this thread once we figure it out.

Anyway, here is the VERY tentative list of participants:

HummerGuy (myself)
jdrew (Jeremy) and wife Carrie
ZYNE (Nick)
HummerMike (Mike)
thehammerh3 (Adrian)
HumminNBoatin' (?)

We've been off-roading together at the Badlands Park before so we are familiar with what we can and can't do (moving rocks out of the way.....). I've also gone with Mike after that as well. If anybody else is interested, please feel free to respond.

This is NOT an official club or forum event. This is just bunch of friends getting together, so most likely it will focus on when Jeremey and Nick can go since they have the toughest work schedules. Anybody is welcome to join us obviously.

Hey Shorty. My wife and I are taking another road trip to California (the Burbank area roughly) at the end of May. We'll be in the area for probably 3 or 4 days. My wife is going to a fan convention and I doubt I will stay the entire time. If you want to get something together for around that time, I may be able to join you for a day or two.

He may be interested. We've been talking about taking a trip together for a while, but our schedules are usually too conflicting.

Since we are taking a road trip, we could pass through on the way back or there. I havent' started plotting our course yet.

Hummerguy Burbank is about an hour or so from me. As the trip gets closer let me know what your schedule looks like.

RE: OFF-Road Event - Midwest - Mid-End January

Definitely. Do any of you have any local groups you go off-roading with? I know shorty does.

shortbus 01-09-2008 12:25 PM

RE: OFF-Road Event - Midwest - Mid-End January

i have a "local" group, but nobody that lives close. if you live close to Interstate 80, it runs from san fransisco to the Jersey shore, you could just take that (crappy conditions in Denver, lots of potholes). it happens to run about 1 mile from where i live, so if you take that route to CA, you would connect with Interstate 5 here in Sac to go south to socal. Or, if you wanted to avoid me at all costs, you could take Interstate 15 from Salt Lake City, through Vegas and the high desert, and go directly to socal. that would connect you with Interstate 10/Hwy 60 to go west to Burbank. Or, you could divert off I-15 in Barstow, go west on hwy 58 past Edwards AFB to Mojave, then go south to Lancaster, then west to I-5 and south to Burbank (sorry, don't know the hwy numbers from Mojave to Lancaster - might be Hwy 14 but i'm not sure). there, your route is half planned for you . . . . :D

RE: OFF-Road Event - Midwest - Mid-End January

I am literally 5 minutes away from I-80, about 1 mile north of it, just as yourself.

Last time we took our road trip, we went up through SD, through Yellowstone and Grand Tetons, and took I-15 from Salt Lake Citythrough Vegas and went to San Diego where my sis is stationed.

She wanted to go to Sac anyway from some of the scenic places she saw on TV, plus we were going to try to squeeze in SF, but if she is planning on staying at this thing all weekend, I may just come up there myself. We'll see what happens.

She dreads a road trip in the H3 because she says our seats are too uncomfortable for a road trip. If I can find a pass-side power seat for her, maybe I can get her to consider it more. Worst case scenario is we will fly into LAX and rent a H3 and just keep our trips local to CA. I can rent the H3 at LAX and return it in Oakland or something like that.

RE: OFF-Road Event - Midwest - Mid-End January

scenic places in Sac? are you guys on the crack again? old town is ok, but it's been getting kinda cheesy/touristy the last few years. now Tahoe, on the other hand, is pretty cool.

HummerGuy 01-09-2008 01:04 PM

RE: OFF-Road Event - Midwest - Mid-End January

It may have been more on the way there. It was mentioned a few times, but maybe as a destination point as you are driving through some of these places. I don't remember specifically.

Hummerguy
I live in downtown chicago and will try to go, what time are you allthinking about going?

HummerGuy 01-09-2008 02:47 PM

RE: OFF-Road Event - Midwest - Mid-End January

I'm not sure yet. I know you talked about doing the meet thing before and I was going to PM you anyway. This off-road park is quite a drive, about 2 to 3 hours from downtown. You would just take the Dan Ryan to I-80/94 towards IN and then we take a country highway the rest of the way. We literally drive right past one of the members here. I'm not sure if they want to do an entire weekend trip somewhere or just one day. We'll have to talk about it later.

Have you ever been off-roading, and if so, do you have a CB? If not, I'm going to install a new one I got in my truck and I can lend you my handheld. It's almost a must.

thehammerh3 01-09-2008 02:57 PM

RE: OFF-Road Event - Midwest - Mid-End January

I havent been off-roading anywhere worth bragging about, so if this is as fun as I hear it is it would be cool to go. If I can borrow your hand held for the day that would be good. If I have the time I will try and get one this week. As soon as you guys know more info about it please keep me posted so I can plan my schedule for next week.

Woops just saw that it was for the 26-27th I can definately go those days.

HummerGuy 01-09-2008 03:11 PM

RE: OFF-Road Event - Midwest - Mid-End January

If you've done Chicago city driving your whole life like me, it won't be an issue going off-roading :D You just have to go really slow. These guys are really cool to hang out with. We are kinda like the 3 (ok four?) stooges. We could meet up somewhere downtown and caravan to pick Mike up (if he can go) and then all three of us drive down there together. The last time we talked about this we were going to do a weekend thing, but this place is literally in the middle of nowhere, but we spent an entire day there and probably only explored 40% of the park. If you don't mind the drive it's a really cool experience.

Don't buy a CB yet. You can just take the handheld I have and use it until we leave. My wife found me one for $2 at a garage sale that is like new so I'm going to hardwire it into my current/new truck. I may be driving a new one by the time we go, but we'll see how that goes.

Keep in mind though, your truck WILL get some minor scuffs due to branches and so forth rubbing on it. Most of the time it can be buffed or rubbed out, but make sure you don't mind it getting dirty. It canbe a chore getting the Mud off :D

One more thing; it wears you out for some reason. By the end of the day, we were all totally run down. I'll add you to the list of tentative people coming ;)

I REALLY wish I would have taken a picture of that rock. [:@] It was like a razor sticking up from the dirt saying "Please, run your half-worn factory 32" tires over my razor-sharp point while you are decending down a 50% grade."

wow, what a dog :D

without an opposable thumb, how does she get the little card out of the laptop? using her teeth could cause a short circuit, 'specially if she just got done lickin' her butt . . . . . . [:'(]

RE: OFF-Road Event - Midwest - Mid-End January

Hey ya crazy bastards .... Count me in Mikey .. I'm good for the 27th (Sunday) for sure .. Saturday is a lil bit iffy but I should know by tomorrow evening ... I think the wife is coming along this time as well .. I will know by tomorrow .. I should be able to make the 27th regardless though ..

Ya can count me out for any and all west coast roadtrips by the way lol .. too fricken far and I spend entirely too much time out there for work as is .... Sorry Cali folks, I honestlylove the state, especially when it's increasing in distance behind me hehehe. Now, if anyone should for example suggest MEETING in Moab on the other hand .. that could quite possibly be something I'd jump on like a fat kid on cake .. hehehe

Sorry for the delayed response on this .. been a fricken nuthouse here of late .. mortgage refi going awry, running around visiting breeders (buying a Rottweiler pup), insane work schedules and lots of after hours/night time work (hush Mike), job hunting/interviewing, etc .. if anyone has any spare time they could sell me and you accept paypal, you got yourself a deal LOL!

jdrew 01-09-2008 06:14 PM

RE: OFF-Road Event - Midwest - Mid-End January

Tomorrow starts 12 days of vacation for me... I'll sell ya a little.. Paypal is accepted as well..

How ya been Nick?? :)

ZYNE 01-09-2008 06:30 PM

RE: OFF-Road Event - Midwest - Mid-End January

Busy, insanely busy! Every time I get one thing squared, 3 new ones pop up .. it's getting old LOL!

Had 11 days off for christmas though but unfortunately they were tainted by some inconsiderate bastard stealing my credit card information from a merchant and proceeded to rack me up in excess of 20K .. spent the majority of my time off trying to deal with it and my mortgage refi which has been an endless row of cluster f*cks of varying magnitude ...

Other than that, the insane hours at work, and the still ongoing situation there .. the running around every !@#!@ night of the week, dealing with HOA insanity, boat dealerissues, and so forth .. I'm not doing bad at all :) I must admit ... a day in the mud with ya'll would be a flipping dream right about now. The wife and I went out briefly between chrismas and new years on some trails we've found around here ... nothing real advanced but fun none the less .. did find a nice natural rock garden type area too but I think it's on private property so I'm not sureI have the guts to try to crawl it lol .. shy of that I don't even remember the last time I was cursing having to spend 4 hours cleaning my truck LOL!
