2009 H3T Base. This is the large radio with factory nav and XM. I jumped in the truck one day and the radio had died. I checked every fuse under the hood and they're all good. Even the digital clock, which normally displays when the key is on and radio is off, doesn't display. I've pulled out the radio and re-seated all the wiring connections, and it's still dead. What else can I check? I know it's 12 years old, but I've grown fond of the Windows XP-ish interface.
From the rear of the radio:
GM PN: 25896525
'09 GMT 345TNF
WDM5
DELPHI PN: 28119393
Used replacements are anywhere from $100 to $750 with no guarantee they'll work, or I can order a factory new one for north of $1,600.00 (plus the dealer expense to marry the radio to my H3T chassis). So barring an easy fix, what are my upgrade options? The factory sound was really great out of this system so I (hopefully) don't need new speakers. CD is not required, but I do enjoy the XM stuff. Nav is not necessary as long as I can bluetooth my phone to the screen. Do I have an amp somewhere and will a new radio use it, or is a new amp required?
Is it as simple as buying a new double-DIN radio and wiring harness adapter and sticking it in the hole? What have others done?
1. Replace the radio
2. In order to keep XM, Factory XM antenna, Factory Chimes (this come through the driver door speaker), RAP, Factory connections without splicing a single wire, etc. we need to see what we are replacing in order to tell you what interface you need to get a Plug & Play installation any monkey can do at home.
- Current Radio: Single CD, 6 Disc Changer or NAV?
3. We need to know what features you want on the new radio. Ex. Android audio or Apple CarPlay
This is an actual pic of the label on my radio. This is where I got the info in my first post:
The eBay description includes my model number I listed above as well as others. Mine does have NAV and a CD player (pretty sure it's a single CD player). Another interesting datapoint is that I can insert and extract a CD, so it obviously is getting power. But as I mentioned, CD and NAV are not required. Bluetooth to the Android Auto (me) and Apple CarPlay (wife) are both wanted, as well as XM. NAV is not required, as I get that from the phone anyway.
So to recap:
Existing radio: Double DIN (Monsoon?) with CD, NAV, and XM
Replacement requirements: Double DIN, touchscreen, bluetooth Android Auto and Apple Carplay, XM
No longer required: CD, NAV
Not required but would be nice: ability to add a reverse camera
I'm not sure what RAP is and Google is no help. As for it being "[an] installation any monkey can do", That's what I'm looking for. But don't overestimate my skills, I'm not a monkey. My momma had me tested.
You have a Monsoon system (amp behind the rear seat)
Since you state you are not familiar with electronics I suggest you go to Crutchfield.com since they can walk you through the installation process and they have a service that will pre-wire everything for you.
-Enter your make model and year.
-Select 6 disc (that will make sure you get the proper adapters for your Monsoon system).
-click Digital multimedia video receivers (double din)
-Select your price, options, volume control **** or buttons, etc. and see which one you like.
A LOT OF RADIOS ARE NOT IN STOCK RIGHT NOW!
Once you figure out what you want call them and they walk you through the different options for adding adaptors, XM, cameras, Pre-wiring, etc.
We had the NAV in both our H3Ts. This is what we run in both of them:
-Alpine iLX-W650
- Crux SOCGM-17C Wiring Interface (we don't use OnStar - removed it)
-Metra 95-3304 Dash Kit
-Metra 40-GM10 Antenna Adapter
-Crutchfield ReadyHarness™ Service (this is the pre-wire for all of the connections I was speaking about above) only $25!
-SiriusXM SXV300V1 Tuner
-PAC USBDMA6 (so you can plug in either the Android or Apple phone)
-Alpine HCE-C1100 (bout 2 for each. So we have front and rear cameras)
Yes, it will cost a little more but there will be way less wiring headache for you. PS: RAP = Retained Accessory Power (the power that stays on in your vehicle for 10 minutes if you don't open the door.
Just ordered an identical setup as yours from Crutchfield. Alarmingly, everything was in stock and will be here next week! All in with one camera, $684.74. I decided to forego the XM receiver, tho. My wife told me she doesn't use hers in her car, so I figure I'll just cancel hers and the Hummer's and switch to a streaming option. That way I can stream it from my phone to the truck, her car and the boat as necessary.
Care to tell me where you mounted the USB connection and maybe share a pic?
Also, the Crutchfield video shows the rear camera cable coming into the cab under the rear seat (wasn't a Hummer). Is that how you wired yours, or did you go all the way to the firewall before entering the cab?
USB connection: I used the blank spot for the rear wiper in an H3. Ts don't have rear wipers.
All my cameras wires and all others run through the firewall. The firewall has a spot for the clutch. Used a hole saw and used a Daystar firewall boot.
Me again. So it was all delivered today and I started the install. Crutchfield makes it silly simple with their wiring harness adapter; thanks for the head's up on that! The "big" connector is all it took to get the radio (FM) playing. However, there's no "Crutchfield" custom connector to connect the smaller connector on the new radio to the truck's smaller connector. This smaller connector on the radio side is what controls the pre-amp and cameras, etc. The kit contained this smaller connector, but everything coming out of it is an RCA connection (8 of them). I was expecting a custom connector that connects the stereo to the truck's connector for the pre-amp other factory truck options, with the camera RCA's also coming out of the new connector (at the radio end). As it came, I have no way to connect the new radio to the pre-amp without pulling RCA cables from the radio to the back seat, even though the Hummer has a factory wiring harness in the dash for that purpose. Did Crutchfield just forget to send me the correct adapter cable?
2nd issue - Do I REALLY have to connect the wire to the parking brake to get Bluetooth to work!?! As far as I can tell from the instructions, I can't connect to Bluetooth without ..."Bring your vehicle to a complete stop at a safe location.| Engage the parking brake | Release the parking brake | Engage the parking brake again | Touch "Setup" | Touch Bluetooth | ...
So does this mean a passenger won't be able to pair their phone to the radio while it is in motion?
Also, where did you mount your rear camera? I'd like it to be accurate enough for backing the ball to a trailer, and I don't think the offset tag bracket location will be good for that.
I've tried Crutchfield's phone number and online chat tonight for my issues, and both are closed until tomorrow. So if you have time to answer that's great, otherwise I'll try them again tomorrow.

If you have sound, you the amp is properly connected through the Crux SOCGM-17C Wiring Interface. There are no pre-outs (RCAs used on the factory Monsoon). The Crux does all of that for you through the factory wires.
Yes, on the parking brake wire.
*Just buy one of these @ BestBuy https://www.bestbuy.com/site/axxess-...?skuId=5741805 and it will allow you to use all the options on the radio without having to connect to the parking brake or stopping the vehicle. On the Alpine iLX-W650 only the parking brake wire yellow/black, no foot brake wire. Leave the green wire disconnected and just connect the other wires according to the instructions.
