Hummer H3 For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.

Why Didn't GM use their 4.2 L Engine in H3s?

Does it look like this?

Tainter: That's an interesting post about the I-6 prototype.
Diesel: I'm not sure if I agree that the I-5 transmission is not reliable. In my experience, most transmission issues were caused by poor maintenance and improper use. Jeep owners have similar issues.
Just my opinion and worth exactly what you are paying me for it. It's all good fun.
Hummer H3 has no power reserve for transmission. For example, look at the front gear(It is the size of a passenger car). The same goes for the automatic transmission.
I have had many SUVs, there is something to compare.

Is there a photo below? in I6, the front drive shaft passes through the crankcase. It is very interesting how they solved this problem for the H3.

From the article Hummerz linked:

"...Chevy Bel Air convertible concept which featured an American-built, inline-five based on the Atlas architecture. It was fitted with a virtual boost system that modified ECU parameters with a push of a button to unleash up to 315 hp."

That would be a neat trick on the I5 H3s!

Don't know what a person would do with 315 HP in that concept car. Maybe that's why it never made it to production.

This photo is not a virtual boost, but a real one)))

What the H3 Hummer needs is a Cummings Diesel.

Nice thought, Col Sanders! However, I don't think Cummins has a diesel that will fit. GM sold the H3 abroad with a diesel option! But the treehuggers in the US forced such high emission standards that the diesel could not meet!
