Hello all. I've owned my 2008 Hummer H3 since 2015 and it's been pretty well taken care of. I bought it at 64k miles, and it now has 130k. A few days ago while driving home the check engine light came on (solid light), but no noticeable difference in the drive. The next day on the way to work it wouldn't go past 2nd gear. After parking for a moment, tried to reverse and it was like it was in neutral.

It's at a Transmission shop now and they are saying to rebuild the Trans is bad and that they have a better Trans to put in for $3600. He then said that he can't tell if it's a transfer case issue unless the Trans is fixed.

Wife thinks I should take it to GMC for a 2nd opinion. I love my H3 and really don't want another car... but I don't know if paying so much to repair is the best either. Any opinions all?

The transmission should be able to be diagnosed separate of the transfer case.
I recommend taking it to a known good mechanic that you feel comfortable with to have a diagnosis.

 

Because that's like going to your doctor and having him say it could be your kidney or maybe your heart but we wont know till we open you up!

 

I was on my home from work 2007 h3 I exit the freeway turned the corner as I accelarated it started to rev high then changed gears any ideas

 

Not enough information. How many miles on the 3, when was the last time you changed the Trans Fluid & Filter, what is the level and quality of the Trans Fluid.? When we know that, we could offer actual fact based ideas. Could just have been a glitch, or you need service?
