Transmission Question
Hi Everyone, I’m new to the forum.
Just wanted to know if the transmission type can be identified by the vin?
Theyre runnning a really good deal on brand new transmissions that were left in storage after GM left South Africa, brand new for about 500 dollars, they need to know if my transmission is a 7tfd or 8tfd - can you identify this without pulling the transmission?
I have a 2007 hummer h3 with vin ADMDN13E474387092
any help would be appreciated
thanks

Welcome to HF.
Got no idea what South Africa used, but replacements for 2007 can be either a 7TFD or 8TFD. You will need the filter for an H3 along with the H3 AT Pan to clear the front drive shaft, and you will need the bell housing from your H3.
4L60Es used in other GM trucks will not bolt up and fit an H3, they are one off with their different filter and pan shape, as well as the bell hosing used.
